  Ordered 2 XLBs, green herb salad & a dan dan noodle (off menu item). Total bill was $30.85.
  
  Def eat the XLB while they're hot, once they start getting cold they have a really fatty taste to them, just like all XLB. These were very juicy & the wrap was thin enough without breaking easily.
  
  We tried the green herb salad before & it was good then but this time it had more herb-y (if that's a word) flavour to it...still quite good mind you & I'd order again.
  
  The dan dan noodles were very flavourful but a bit on the dry side, I like a little bit more moisture in my dan dan noodles.
  
  The server spoke to me in Chinese & I answered as much as I could; she gave me praise for my effort. Friendly customer service...that's what I really appreciate in a restaurant besides the food & price.
  
  Since the quality & taste of the XLB are very close to Wang's & the prices don't hurt the wallet as much here, this is now my go-to.

  So you know how you had certain foods when you were growing up that you LOVED, and how you want your kids to experience them but can't find any place that serves the real deal? I have that experience a lot with Jewish cuisine and traditional Americanized Cantonese Chinese foods (the kind we used to get all the time, growing up on the east coast in the 60's and 70's). Nowadays, most Chinese foods are more gourmet, or more fusion oriented, or more specific to local areas in China and thus more authentic. And all these are wonderful, for sure! But I grew up with Americanized Chinese food (those of you old enough to remember will know what I mean!). And it was good, and cheap, and my kids never really had it.
  
  Until now.
  
  This place is fantastic. I recently started exploring the Marpole area and I stumbled upon this restaurant in my travels. It was mid-day and nobody was here when I visited. The ladies inside working couldn't have been nicer. I told them I'd like to place an order for take-out and I was given a menu that, I kid you not, rivaled War and Peace, it was SO big. I was confused as my kid doesn't eat meat, so I asked the lady at the counter what she recommended. There were SO many options and they all sounded great (I liked how there were photos of each dish on the huge menu).
  
  One lady brought me hot tea as I was perusing the menu (so nice!). And when my tea got low, she brought me a refill. (I didn't ask for this, nor was I charged for this. Just a super nice gesture).
  
  I ended up ordering some sticky honey pork shortribs for myself, and a vegetable chow mien with shrimp for my kid, and some sort of onion bun/dumplings to share. The price was very reasonable, and when I got home, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they included chopsticks and all sorts of extra sauces, and some prepackaged moist towelettes, too. Gee, this place thinks of everything.
  
  Okay, one bite of my spareribs and I was immediately brought back to my youth. They were exactly like those I used to have, growing up! Exactly! (It was reminiscent of that scene in the movie Ratatouille where the food critic tastes Remi's ratatouille and is immediately transported back to his youth). I so wished my kid would try these ribs but she doesn't eat meat, so no go. But she swooned over her chow mien (and it looked exactly like the chow mien I know and love, too. But I was too rapt up in my spareribs to try it). The kid loved the buns, too (I didn't want anything but my ribs! They were perfect!).
  
  This place isn't fancy but boy, it's good. The people who work here are really nice and they offer so many dishes (well over a hundred, for sure), all priced reasonably, with generous portions. Super place.

  Jasmine Flower Shanghai Cuisine serves up Chinese delectables at unbelievable prices and ridiculous portions  This is a place where that frugal you do not want to miss! Best for those gatherings where you want to leave with a full stomach and two bags of take out, this is the place to be. Fair quality, the restaurant gives you ample variety of food to choose from and their party meal combos are definitely worth coming back for. Get your appetite ready!

  We were quite hungry after a day on the beach with light snacks so we decided to get some Chinese food. This place honestly did not disappoint. They were full when we got in but a table had just finished so we were seated as soon as the table was cleaned. We ordered 4 dishes: egg fried rice, smoked duck, braised beef and steamed eggplant. Everything was amazing - my favourite was the eggplant dish. It was perfectly steamed and had a great meat sauce. It was flavourful and came in a large dish - great quality and quantity. Their duck was super - smoky and nicely seasoned. The skin was crispy. We ordered half a duck and that was perfect for 3 people. Braised beef was perfect - it came with Napa cabbage, I think. The meat was tender and all that juice from braising was decadent. And their fried rice - gorgeous! It was exactly what we wanted to eat - perfectly cooked fried rice - flavourful and huge quantity.
  Now, our server - I think her name was Selina; she was fantastic. Huge a wonderful personality and she always checked up on us and treated us so well. She was kind, courteous and genuinely helpful. She never rushed and always listened to what we wanted; and if we were unsure, she'd help with suggestions. This is exactly the reason why I think this place deserves a 5 star (their food too off course). People are the foundation of any company/organization and I think all restaurants need more people like her. Amazing, thank you!

  finally had the chance to try this new shanghai place thats opened up around marpole area....
  
  not very many reviews, and looks like a hit and miss....so i thought, what the heck! cant be that bad..
  
  went there around 1pm-ish on a sunday . 4 private parking spots in the back and free street parking upfront.
  
  place is small and decor is so so...nothing to say that they are a shanghai themed place. right before you enter the place, some menu items with pictures are plastered on the glass walls outside.
  
  get in, the place is humming! very busy and chaotic. definitely a family run biz. they only had 1 server, who was at the same time seating people, clearing tables, taking orders, setting tables, serving the food, getting the bill, preparing take out, you name it shes doing it. poor girl. had to wait at least 30 mins for out vacant table to get cleared and ready for us. the owner didnt care as she was busy with the till and ringing in cash. the phone was ringing off the hook but no one answered. i see diners getting up and getting their own utensils, napkins, tea, water, extra bowls etc...such a chaotic sight! initially, u wouldn't know know who worked there...
  
  anyways, unto the food...ordered the xlb, pan fried buns, fried smoked duck, and the stir-fried pork with flour wrap.
  
  xlb was average. yes, the skin is thinner than most places..but the soup and meat inside lacked flavour. a bit bland and lacking in broth power.....
  
  the shanghai fried pork buns were same. the outer pastry was fried and thinner than most places, making it easy to take a bite out if it. but the essence inside fell short.
  
  moving on,  stir fried pork with flour wraps were amazing! you get a huge serving with several pieces of steam thin flour wraps. pork was done well. seasoned perfectly and tossed in a tangy hoisin sauce, and garnished with slivered cucumber and scallions.
  
  the start of the show though was the duck! perfect execution. skin was light and  crispy ..,the meat succulent and tender, packed full of flavour! the smoked tea flavour and spices penetrated the duck through and through. came with 4 white buns as well. we all loved it! true shanghai flavours finally!
  
  food did come out quicker than we waited for our table. server profusely apologizing over and over again for the slow service. we told her it wasnt her fault and mgmt should hire more staff.
  
  would i go back? yes...there are other snack items that me and the wife wanted to try. and my wife likes to sample the duck again. lol. maybe on a less busy dining time though!
  
  another plus about this place is that the prices are very reasonable. not as expensive as most shanghai pk

  update: dined here with parents last night and the xlb seems to have improved. tried other things like pata tim( very soft and tender and juicy) peking duck 2 way...skin was slightly burned but meat nice and juicy. other way was salt and pepper duck pieces. also good. great with beer. tasted mike dry ribs. lol. had the squirrel fish, it was meh!  almost no meat on fish. too much. reading but sauce was awesome. tried the the braised beef brisket! wow! so goood!
